This is the 3rd and final blog in my series on "Why Men Hate Going to Church".
Spiritual elitism is everywhere in the Christian bubble. One church brags that they have the best music in town and will "rock the sin out of you". Another church claims that Jesus will be there today. (Isn't he always "here"? I did not know we can order him like takeout food!) And then there is the famed "Worship Wars". The traditional churches won't give up their 2000 year-old songs. The contemporary churches will endlessly sing worship songs that are written with only 2 lines and the neverending chorus.
Where is Jesus in this?
Why does it drive men crazy?
Here is why......it is crap. That is why.
I am not picking sides with worship music. There are great strengths to different styles of music. But what is important is.........is the Gospel in this music? Are people experiencing Jesus in what we are doing? Or are we satisfying minds and hearts that do not desire change. And with no change = lack of spiritual fruit.
I know spiritual elitism from now and ESPECIALLY when I worked in the church. Some denominations won't partner outside of their denomination. Some pastors don't give a crap about the church beside them. I was fortunate. Even though I experienced some crazy stuff in this area, I have met many different Christian pastors, leaders, etc. over the course of my time as a Jesus follower who were focused on Jesus--and not just their church.
Men hate spiritual elitism because spiritual elitism says only one church (usually the one a person is attending or talking about) is the only "real church" in the area. Yes, men are competitive. We love sports. We love winning at video games. But church is a different realm. Competition can wear us out and we don't want that in our churches.
Since we love teams, most men understand the concept of teamwork.
