Your parents named you. You were probably named after someone. Mail is addressed to you. Bills are yours too! :)
If you are married (and a female), then you probably took your husband's last name. You are in a marriage covenant TOGETHER. Your new last name shows that you have moved forward and are now a new family.
There is GREAT power in YOUR NAME.
You may not like your name or you may love your name. But your name--is YOURS!! Your name is your identity. People call your name at work. You receive tons of emails to YOUR name. Sometimes, people might attach some adjectives before your name--this can be either positive or negative!!
Think about this...........
Before you were born, your parents picked out your name.
After you were born, you went home from the hospital and your name was etched onto a birth certificate.
All throughout your childhood and teen years----your name went through a lot. Maybe you are ashamed of what your name means. Abuse, loss, pain---maybe you feel like they have defined you.
Many of you reading this blog are adults.
As I stated previously, your first AND last name may signal great joy or pain to your life. HOWEVER.......even as an adult.............your story is not over.
God can restore. He can heal. Just because (insert something bad from your past or family) happened--it does not define you. What defines us is how we respond.
The world will throw arrows. People will remind you of your past. But you can move forward. In the end, we will not answer to all of these other people. When we die, we will answer to God.
When God restores us.......He moves us forward. He makes all things new. NEW!
If you were abused as a child..........remember that God loves you MORE than any family member or friend.
If you made some mistakes and cannot forgive yourself.......remember that God wipes your slate clean. He knows your heart.
If you doubt your abilities or worth........remember that God made the oceans, beaches, mountains, valleys, forests, etc. He made each of us DIFFERENT and for a PURPOSE.
God is not done writing our Story.
The Past--Remember where you came from but don't get stuck in the past. Don't go through life trying to be the high school version of yourself. Remember the mistakes AND good choices that you made that led you to where you are now.
The Present--Whom determines the choices you make? Are you still answering to your parents as an adult? Think about what and who brings you joy.
The Future--Mend some relationships that need repaired. Invest in things that give you joy and life. And PASS IT ON to others.
