Monday marked 2 months since I became a SAHD (Stay At Home Dad). Here are a few lessons that I learned in the last 2 months…..
Dirty diapers multiply: No matter what you read on this blog today, remember this! Dirty diapers multiply. Your child could have no dirty diapers in the waste basket and then a herd of them magically appear! We use reusable cloth diapers and wash diapers every two days. When we stuff the diapers with their liners, we still wonder where all of these diapers came from.
Crockpots save lives: I am actually a good cook (that is what my wife tells me at least) and do not mind making meals. However, for time’s sake, I have used the Crockpot a bunch of times since being a SAHD. Meal preparation is simple and so is cleanup. Kids like the meals and I have found that less ingredients are better. This saves time and even a few dollars.
Address your soul: This has been a time of detoxing my soul. I have been working A LOT since I was 12…...newspaper carrier, mowing lawns/raking lawns, and then it continued on. Over the years, I have experienced some great experiences from my employment. Some of the richest friendships I have are because of the jobs that I had. Quite the opposite, over the years I have encountered some toxic and strange work environments. To detox my soul, I have to align to God’s Word. I also have to break agreements that I may have subsciously made in my soul in relation to my job experiences.
Use a checklist: This seems like a no-brainer but everyone is wired different. My life was a huge checklist when I worked in the corporate setting. And depending where I worked, everything was “urgent”. As I started as a SAHD, I figured I would remember everything. HAHAHA! My checklist is smaller these days because it is easier for me to plan and execute a few important items daily than compile a list that is unattainable and unrealistic. Your checklist and this system needs to work for you. I was utilizing the Google Keep app; however, I would often add things to the checklist and forget about it. Old school legal pad and pen are what is working well for me these days! I have not mastered this but progress......is progress!!!
