The Quarantined Life: Hoarders and Personal Space Issues
We have all asked this question at one point in our spiritual journey. People ask this question when their life has hit a brick wall. Brokenhearted folks ask this question as they seem to experience continued turmoil and darkness instead of peace and comfort.
What words would you use to describe your prayers? Predictable? Lacking faith? Unfocused?
Here is why we should pray…..
God wants to hear from us. Really! But here is the complicated piece---God granted us a freedom known as “free will”. Free will allows us to either choose or reject God. God is relational and He has created us as relational beings. God will not force Himself upon us. We should pray because this is how we build a solid relationship with God. Communication is vital in any healthy relationship.
We need real wisdom. We should pray because we need to get authentic wisdom from the One who creates---including creating you and me. Where are you seeking wisdom? Try this: when you find yourself asking for wisdom on Facebook or through your friends; ask God. God’s wisdom shines into the darkest corners of our soul, changes our thought patterns, and mends the shattered pieces of our heart.
Prayer is a process; not a destination. We have mastered many prayers/repetitive readings in the Church. The Lord’s Prayer, the Nicene Creed, and other prayers have been passed down through the centuries Repetitive prayers have a lot of content; however, we need to be able to pray outside of repetitive prayers. Repetitive prayers are great but they are not the end-all to our spiritual toolbox. Think about this: if you are facing several different ailments and go to your doctor, you would want him to try different methods to heal you if the first method did not work. Our prayer life is similar. God wants to heal us but the same prayer will not work every time.
Prayer is essential to experiencing the Kingdom of God…..now! If we need any other reason as to why we should pray; this reason is key. The Kingdom of God is now! Jesus came so that we could experience the Kingdom of God on earth. We do not have to wait until we die and stroll through the pearly gates of Heaven. If your only goal in the Christian life is to get to Heaven---you missed the point. We can experience the peace of God now! We can help others experience love, healing, and peace….on Earth….now!
I am going to dare you.
Don’t just pray for people. Pray with people. We need prayer. Our loved ones need prayer.
