Christmas is hyped up from November 1 until Christmas Day. Expectations are high and you better come through for others. Heck, they better come through for you! This should be the best Christmas ever!
Christmas is not about you or me. Christmas is about God giving us His one and only son and delivering him to a stinky manger. We have really messed up this opportunity. Christmas is the one time of the year that human hearts are receptive to receiving the hope that can only be found---in Jesus. A hope that can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. And we are anything but focused on the true meaning of Christmas.
Our expectations will never be met if we do not examine them or if they are unrealistic. In order to better prepare ourselves for this time-frame next year, some things NEED TO CHANGE!!!
Busyness---Jesus hates this and the Devil loves it. We are so busy playing the game known as Christmas that we do not get anything spiritual out of the holiday other than some extra prayers and song-singing. Start cleaning out your calendar. Traditions are only legit if they bear good fruit---not just warm and fuzzy feelings. Trim your traditions like you do your live Christmas tree---one branch at a time.
Baggage tossing---Sometimes, our worst self comes out at the holidays. It is very easy to bring drama to the holidays because people are already on edge. Practice boundaries. Learn to tell people "no" when the situation is not your burden and walk away. Pray for that person or with them. A lot of people desire an audience when deep down inside---they really need desire prayer.
Look forward-----Plan for next year's Christmas. What went well this year and what was a disaster? In addition, plan for the New Year and what theme God has for you. Our theme impacts not just our life but the lives of those around us.
